What’s been going on with me

It’s been a hell of a week for me to be quite honest, and I want to share it all with you guys.
First off, I know I have been lacking in writing blogs the last few weeks, but I have had some stuff going on and it’s only fair if I tell you guys what’s been going on, and what’s going to happen.
I will also share my exciting news on how I have finally figured out what I want my career to be and the changes I will be making on my blog that will benefit my career and passions.

As some of you may know, I am deaf. I have hearing aids in both ears and I have had them since I was 8 years old. Hearing loss runs in my family, which means most of my family members on my Nan’s side of the family and my mum and little brother are also deaf. It’s something I have come to terms with over the years, that my hearing may not get better but on Friday, my world basically stopped spinning when I was told that I will need the cochlear implant in my left ear. It’s been a subject that has been brought up a couple of times since my hearing has been deteriorating quite quickly over the last few months, but it’s never something I thought about, because, I guess I had hope that there was something else they could do. It’s not like the world is going to end for me when I get it, but it’s extremely scary that I will be having a big operation – and surgeries scare the absolute hell out of me. As well as the long recovery after the surgery. It’s going to be a long process.
I am however, looking forward to being able to hear properly, so I suppose that’s a big plus.
Because of this, there will be fewer blogs happening due to having to travel to Melbourne for tests and a lot of appointments etc, but I will try my hardest to keep them frequent for you.

If you don’t know what the cochlear implant is, it’s a hearing device designed to bypass the damaged parts of the inner ear by electrically stimulating the hearing nerve. The nerve then sends a signal to the brain where it is interpreted as sound.

Cochlear implants provide an important option for children and adults with significant hearing loss who gain little or no benefit from hearing aids.

What does a cochlear implant look like?

A cochlear implant has both internal and external parts.

Internal part:

The internal part is put in place surgically under general anesthesia. It consists of:

  • A receiver and magnet, placed under the skin behind the ear
  • An electrode array (series of electrodes), placed in the cochlea.

External part

The external part is worn behind the ear. It consists of:

  • A sound processor powered by batteries (looks similar to a hearing aid)
  • A cable and circular coil connected to the sound processor that is held on the head by a magnet.

So that’s what a cochlear implant is, and if you are interested in learning more about it, just click this link and it’ll take you to a website explaining more about it.

I am extremely nervous about getting this, but at the same time grateful that this generation has more equipment and procedures that can help those in need.
I will definitely keep you guys updated on my progress once I get the implant.

While we are on the subject of health, I have decided to go back vegetarian and not eat processed foods anymore. I believe it’s so important to take care of your body as you only get to have one and nourish it with the right foods. I’m in no way saying everyone should go vegetarian/vegan, I myself will not be turning vegan due to various reasons and I know meat is just as important for your body, so please do not think I am saying that. I am going vegetarian for me and my health/body.
I will try to go for a 30-40 minute walk every morning and drink more water than I have been.
I’m really excited for a positive change!

Moving onto my career choice and blog change – guys I am so excited to share this with you!

It may have taken me til I was 23 to figure out what I wanted my career path to be and it may have been right in front of me the whole time, but if you’re still unsure of what you want to do with your life, don’t beat yourself up about it. Seriously, you’re still young (for those who are still young) and you WILL figure it out. Just be patient.

I want to be a writer. Whether it’s a magazine editor for my favourite magazine (dream job guys) or a freelance writer. Maybe even an author! I don’t know, but I want to pursue a career in writing! And with saying that, I will be changing my blog to just focusing on the writing aspect of it, which means I will no longer be doing makeup tutorials. I know you guys loved that, but I just don’t wear makeup enough these days, or even have the time to do a tutorial for you. And to be honest, it’s just not something I’m interested in. I absolutely love makeup and fashion, and will continue doing reviews for you, but the makeup tutorials will be stopping. I really hope you understand.

I will be focusing on lifestyle blogs – e.g:

  • Coffee shop crawls – Where I will go to a different coffee shop weekly or so, and share with you guys my weekly goals and why I want to achieve them, and I will also talk about how impressed or not impressed I am with the coffee at said coffee shop.
  • My opinions of topics that interest me, whether it be about celebrity gossip, new trends, etc.
  • Once a week, I may even write a blog about the books, music, TV Shows and movies I am currently loving and recommend.

Advice blogs such as, how you can DE-stress yourself, prepare yourself for a new job, if you’re at school – how you can get through the school year and deal with those mean girls that every school seem to have.
All of these will be based on my experience and sharing them with you will make me extremely happy.

These are just some of the blog ideas I have in mind, I have written down a ton more and really excited to start changing and writing about the things I enjoy!
There will also probably be less photos being provided, but if I do feel like providing photo’s for a certain blog, I will.

I really hope you all enjoy my new blog ideas and will continue to follow me even though there won’t be any more makeup tutorials.

Until next time –

Love,

I was a vegetarian for 6 months last year but due to personal reasons stopped. But I’m already feeling a lot better being back plant based and will definitely continue being one! ❤️

Emily, I hope your surgery will be successful; it is normal feeling to be afraid of surgery you have to keep in mind it will help you with your hearing. You should share your experience with the surgery on wordpress, as many people suffer from hearing problems.
I think you will succeed with being a writer as you have an immense passion for it, and you are very determined to follow your dream till the end
